‘Bachelorette’ Reveals Double Mastectomy Plans

A former Bachelorette is revealing plans for a double mastectomy. She actually isn’t the first alum from the franchise to go through this process. Several years ago, Lesley Murphy decided to have a double mastectomy after learning she carried the BRCA2 genetic mutation. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and Lesley didn’t want to take any chances. So, she had the procedure done as a preventative measure. Now, another Bachelorette is facing the same surgery but for very different reasons. Keep reading to find out more. 

Bachelorette To Have Double Mastectomy 

Bachelorette Katie Thurston found out she has breast cancer in February 2025. Shortly after, she learned it spread to her liver and was classified as stage 4. She chose to remain positive through it all. Katie began treatment and, after some time, found out the tumor shrunk. Now, she gives another update a year after she was first diagnosed. She’s had her fair share of ups and downs through it all. 

After Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer, she and her fiancé, Jeff Arcuri, shocked everyone and got married. Katie revealed that after a year, she’s still on her first line of treatment. Since the cancer had originally spread, she will most likely be on meds for the rest of her life to keep it in control. She also shared that while her tumor did not shrink this time, it is stable. Katie said, “It’s the first time in the year that my tumor hasn’t been shrinking…which had me kind of spiraling a little bit.”

After speaking with her oncologist, Katie felt better about things. He still feels the treatment is working because the cancer has not spread, and over the past year has shrunk 50 percent. 

Next up, Katie revealed she will be getting with a surgeon to discuss getting a double mastectomy.

Fans Rushed To Support Katie 

Bachelorette fans rushed to congratulate Katie Thurston on her news. Many noted how proud they are of her. Some said that she inspires them and is incredibly strong. Mikey Planeta, who appeared in her season, said, “So proud of you and inspired by your strength! Thank you for updating us. Praying for you always!”

Just six weeks ago, Katie celebrated her 22nd birthday, and her husband shared multiple photos of her and said how proud he is of her. He also said that even when she’s having the worst days, she still makes him laugh.
