‘General Hospital’ ‘Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett Joins Cast, Who Will He Be?

General Hospital is adding a new character to the cast list. Well-known actor Jonathan Bennett is joining the cast. He has appeared on daytime television in the past. Bennett played JR Chandler in All My Children in 2001-2002. After numerous hit movies and television shows, he’s making a comeback to daytime as a mysterious character in Port Charles. Who will he be playing?

General Hospital Casts New Mysterious Character

Deadline was first to confirm that Jonathan Bennett is joining the cast of General Hospital. The Mean Girls heartthrob will be portraying a brand new character. According to reports, Bennett will be playing Joe Fitzpatrick. Frank Valentini spoke with Soap Opera Digest and gushed over Bennett joining their cast. He said, “We’re so excited to have Jonathan joining our cast. He’s a tremendous talent and will be a fantastic addition to GH.”

 What is his purpose in Port Charles? So far, the details about where Joe will fit into everything have remained a mystery. In fact, it was said that no further details will be released at this time. Bennett went to his own Instagram to also share the exciting news of his arrival in Port Charles. He shared the Deadline article and said, “There’s a new guy in town… @generalhospitalabc”

There may not be any official news regarding where Joe will fit into the picture, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. Some fans hope he might be a new love interest for Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). However, Bennett is gay and has portrayed some incredible roles as a gay man. So, this leaves most to think that perhaps he will swoop in to save Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) from the heartbreak of losing Marco Rios. 

One fan commented that they heard he was coming to Port Charles as a detective. Either way, it seems all signs are pointing toward Lucas having a new lover arriving on set.

What Else Has Bennett Starred In?

Along with All My Children and Mean Girls, Jonathan Bennett has also starred in many other successful roles. Known as “the gay king of Christmas,” Bennett has starred in Hallmark movies. A few of those movies are The Holiday Sitter and The Christmas House. Bennett also played roles in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder: Freshman Year, Cheaper By the Dozen 2, as well as roles on popular shows such as Dr. Odyssey, Station 19, Law & Order: SVU, and Fantasy Island.

The new General Hospital star is also no stranger to reality television. He hosts several Food Network series, such as Cake Wars, Cupcake Wars, and Halloween Wars. He also appeared on Dancing With the Stars and Celebrity Big Brother.
