Erin Bates’ Medical History, Blood Clots & Past Health Scares
Bringing Up Bates star Erin Bates is currently fighting for her life in ICU after giving birth to her seventh child on August 25. Erin found herself facing a severe UTI and kidney infection. She went into septic shock and was placed in intensive care. Unfortunately, this is not the first medical issue that Erin has suffered. She has had multiple health issues in the past that have caused complications and other scares. Here is a deeper look at Erin’s medical history, including past blood clots and miscarriages.
Erin Bates’ Complex Medical History
Bringing Up Bates star Erin Bates continues to struggle and remains weak in intensive care. Sadly, she’s been through a lot in her 34 years. When she married Chad Paine, Erin was determined that she wanted to have ten children with him. Prior to having her first child in 2015, Erin suffered multiple miscarriages. The miscarriages were caused by a blood-clotting issue. This was only the beginning of further issues to come.
Prior to welcoming Carson in May 2015, Erin talked about how the miscarriages were the hardest thing she had ever been through. She and Chad prayed endlessly for God to give them a baby. Their prayers were finally answered.
Following the birth of Carson, they welcomed Brooklyn, who was born in August 2016. Then, the couple welcomed Everly, born in March 2018, and Holland, who was born in November 2019.
In February 2021, Erin returned to social media to explain that she had been gone so long due to further health complications. At that time, she said she endured three surgeries over just a few months. The surgeries were to repair damage caused by “cysts that have ruptured and caused a lot of internal bleeding.”
Erin went on to say, “I ended up having to have one ovary removed and most of my second removed as well. It has been scary and really discouraging at times, but we have been so grateful for the medical doctors who have helped us navigate through these uncertainties.”

What She Believes Led To Her Female Issues
Erin Bates went on to explain to fans in February 2021 that she blames having COVID twice for her female issues. After her second COVID diagnosis, she started having female problems, which led to internal bleeding. Following her three surgeries, she was working on getting back to normal with hormone therapy.
At that time, Erin admitted that it would be a miracle if she and Chad were able to have another baby. She only had 1/3 of her ovary remaining, and it was badly scarred.
God had other plans for the couple. Erin ended up pregnant again, and Finley was born in January 2022. They then welcomed William, born in October 2023. Finally, their seventh child, Henry, was born in August 2025.
Now, she’s once again struggling and this time fighting for her life. They thought her infection was improving, only to have Chad announce that a severe seizure had occurred, which left them with more questions and heartbreak.

Chad and the rest of the Bates family have been asking fans to pray for Erin to have complete healing. So far, there has been no Friday update.
