‘DOOL’ Suzanne Rogers Reveals Maggie’s Fate Amid Cancer Battle
Suzanne Rogers has played Maggie Horton for 52 years on Days of Our Lives. The DOOL star opened up recently about a personal struggle that affected her time in Salem. She kept the devastating news that she had cancer under wraps for quite some time. Now, she’s sharing her story with fans amid rumors she left the daytime soap opera. In a new interview, Rogers reveals her fate in Salem as well as her current prognosis. Keep reading to get all the details.
Days Of Our Lives: Suzanne Rogers Opens Up About Cancer
52-year DOOL veteran Suzanne Rogers didn’t exactly have a great summer. She opened up to TV Insider about rumors seen online that she retired or left the show. Rogers wants her fans to know why they may see less of her for some episodes coming in 2026. The soap is reportedly ten months ahead in filming, so Suzanne’s summer absence won’t be seen until next year. However, the six-week break the show took from filming also helped with her being gone for treatment.
Her cancer battle began this past summer when she felt something just wasn’t quite right. She had been receiving routine colonoscopies as needed, but her doctor ordered another one, which led to him wanting an MRI, PET scan, and biopsy. The biopsy brought to light her worst fears. Rogers was diagnosed with Stage II colorectal cancer. The doctor told her she needed to start treatment right away.
She filmed her last scene with Days of Our Lives on June 13 and began receiving treatment for cancer three days later. Rogers said, “It was radiation every day and chemo every day for six weeks and it was tough. It was tough knowing you had to do it five days a week and then you had off Saturday and Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekends because I didn’t have to go to and see a doctor. I was so tired of seeing doctors.”

Her Future On The Soap And Prognosis
Rogers shared that she has no family in Los Angeles, so her close friends, such as her on-screen daughter Linsey Godfrey (Sarah Horton) stepped up to help her. They went with her to appointments and sat with her through infusions. She finally allowed Godfrey to fill some of her co-workers in, and they helped her feel less alone with supportive phone calls.
The writers and producers all assured her the role was still hers when she was ready to return. They wanted her to focus on getting better. That was the top priority.
Rogers completed her cancer treatment on July 31. Luckily, she did not lose her hair since she was taking chemo pills rather than infusions.
She has now been given a good prognosis from her doctors and is ready to head back to work. Rogers said, “I’m feeling really good. I start back to work next week, so we’ll see how that goes. Now, I’m feeling anxious like I do any time I get scripts because I want to do my very best and you don’t want to hold up anybody. So that’s the only anxiousness I feel. It’s not because of my illness, let’s put it that way.”
Maggie Horton isn’t going anywhere. Rogers also said that every day she is feeling better. She’s having more good days than bad now. She’s thankful for all the support and prayers that have gotten her through.
