‘General Hospital’ Kirsten Storms Undergoes Brain Surgery Amid Show Absence
General Hospital star Kirsten Storms has been on an extended leave of absence from the show after packing up and moving to Tennessee. Originally, she said the move was in support of what is best for her daughter. However, now, she’s revealing that she also made the move for her own health. In a new social media post, Storms reveals that she is undergoing brain surgery in the next few weeks. Ironically, her character, Maxie Jones, is in a coma on the hit daytime drama, which allowed for her lengthy leave of absence. What is going on with Kirsten that is leading her to the operating room?
General Hospital Star Kirsten Storms To Undergo Brain Surgery Again
General Hospital star Kirsten Storms is opening up to fans about a personal medical issue she is facing. The actress, who is 41, moved out of Los Angeles to provide a better life for her 11-year-old daughter Harper in Tennessee. She now reveals that her own physical and mental health were also part of that move.
Thankfully, executive producer Frank Valenti is allowing Storms to stay on the cast list for the soap and granted her an extended leave of absence to get her new life sorted out. Prior to the announcement of her upcoming brain surgery, she was expected to return to GH later this year. It’s unclear if that is still her plan or if the return will be extended a bit more.
Her latest surgery comes from finding out she has an aneurysm on the right side of her brain that needs to be repaired. Storms noted in her social media post that “my brain seems to be sorta lowkey rebelling against me.”
This isn’t the first brain surgery Storms has had to endure. In 2021, she had a cyst removed. It was a follow-up scan to this surgery that led to the discovery of the aneurysm. In January, Storms had a procedure done “where the doctor [threaded] a camera from my leg up to my brain. (It’s a routine procedure, but the path inside your body that they lead the camera through is *insane*… THE CAMERA GOES THROUGH YOUR ARMPIT, guys. Your. Armpit.) Anyway, because of the *slightly* complex situation with the aneurysm (nothing bad, just not typical), it wasn’t coiled that weekend.”

When Is Her Upcoming Surgery?
Kirsten Storms went on to share that her upcoming coiling procedure will be scheduled and completed in the next two weeks. Her best friend and former co-star Emme Rylan, who played Lulu, has been with her every step of the way. The two have even started a new business venture, crocheting gorgeous sweaters.
The scan she had in January also revealed a very small new cyst on her brain stem. A lot of her issues can be caused by stress, so it was important for her to change things up. She said, “For my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me. The biggest reason for the move was Harper, but a lot of it was for my physical and mental health. And my overall happiness.”
Storms also revealed that she chose to go public with her health condition for a few different reasons. One reason is that she wants others to know that everyone goes through tough times. The second reason is that some people have spread vicious rumors about her, and she wants the truth out there rather than a bunch of lies.
Storms has a lot of support and seems ready to tackle this issue and move forward. Hopefully, she shares another post with fans soon, giving an update about how her procedure went. For those who do not know, coiling is a procedure used to block blood flow to the aneurysm. If the aneurysm were to burst, it could prove to be fatal or cause serious damage. Luckily, physicians caught it and are working toward repairing it.
