Gary’s life was already spiraling out of control as a child. During the show, it was revealed that he reached 200 pounds at the age of 10. Dr. Now told Gary to follow a 1,200-calorie diet to get him approved for bariatric surgery. Dr. Now also assigned a physical therapist to help with Gary’s mobility. However, he barely made any progress on his episode, dropping to only 753 pounds after 12 months with Dr. Now. Fortunately, it only fueled Gary’s desire to lose weight. The My 600-Lb Life star documented his journey after the show, and he has made significant progress since.

At this point, Gary shared that he’s doing 100 stands a day, leg lifts in bed, and more water intake. He wrote, “This isn’t about being perfect… it’s about showing up when it hurts. To anyone who’s been stuck in bed… To anyone who feels too heavy, too tired, too far gone… Listen to me: You are NOT stuck. Your body is NOT done. Your story is NOT over.” Gary went on to say that people who are struggling with their weight should never be afraid to start slow. He added, “Because one day… those small movements turn into strength that strength turns into confidence and that confidence turns into a whole new life.”
