Counting On alum Jackson Duggar has been living in California close to Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo. He relocated near his sister to study at a bible college. He’s aiming to become a pastor, making him the second family member to study outside Arkansas. Jackson has been through some controversies as well, especially after attending the same behavioral camp as Josh. But many were surprised when Jackson recalled his mother’s way of punishment when they were younger. Keep reading to see the discussion.

‘Counting On‘: Jackson Duggar Opens Up About Michelle’s Punishments

Some Counting On fans on Reddit discussed a clip from Jackson’s previous podcast episode with Jinger and Jeremy. They talked about stories of him growing up, and one of them includes Michelle’s way of disciplining them. She speaks in a graceful manner when she’s scolding the kids. However, Jackson then revealed that she would take the kids to the van for “encouragement” after being naughty at the grocery store.

Many believe that the “encouragement” includes physical punishment. The speculations were fueled because of how silent Jinger was throughout the topic, seemingly recalling a traumatic past.

  • “The fact that Jinger was quiet in this clip says a lot about her childhood behind closed doors.”
  • “I’m honestly surprised. Of course Jeremy took over (ugh) but I thought maybe the siblings could have had a conversation together. I didn’t watch the entire podcast, though.”
  • “And the fact that Jinger doesn’t have any new stories about her childhood screams that she has upbringing was traumatic—same goes for Jackson.”
  • “If they really believe that hitting is okay then why do they use the code word encouragement when talking about it? Jinger looks extremely uncomfortable and Jeremy can shut the hell up about a childhood that he didn’t experience.”
  • “I HATE how fundies label these cruel punishments with such innocuous words. It’s sinister. Encouragement should consist of words of kindness and motivation, not hitting your child.”
  • “She was purposeful in what she said “encouragement in the van” because not many moms will say “let’s go to can so I can lay a beating on you.”

Jackson Sees His Life Differently

Jackson previously opened up about his life after the reality show. The Counting On alum once revealed in Jinger and Jeremy’s podcast that living in the public eye felt surreal and crazy. He even saw himself as Truman Burbank in The Truman Show from 1998. He was raised in a reality show without knowing it, which is exactly what many of the Duggar kids experienced back then. Jackson remembered watching The Truman Show for the first time and quickly related to its story. “Is this like me? Did they just make this movie about me?” he says.
