‘GH’ Steve Burton Talks Emotional Goodbye To Kelly Monaco
General Hospital fans are still upset over Kelly Monaco being fired from the soap. The cast has also expressed how hard it was to say goodbye not only to Kelly but to her character Sam McCall as well. Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) is the latest to speak out about the emotional goodbye he had with Kelly. What did he share? Keep reading for all the details.
General Hospital Steve Burton Talks Emotional Goodbye
General Hospital star Steve Burton has a long history with Kelly Monaco. Their characters have been on and off lovers for years with fans even nicknaming them “JaSam.” Many believed that Sam and Jason were always endgame.
They started filming together in 2003. So, it comes as no surprise that it was hard for him to let her go.
He recently spoke about how hard it was to film the final scenes with Kelly. During his podcast, The Daily Drama, he talked about it with his co-host.
Nobody wanted Sam McCall to be killed off. Her final air date was October 30 when everyone said their tearful goodbyes. Jason recalled filming those moments and said, “I was really at a loss in the sense of I wasn’t sure how to play this. Obviously, we have a huge history. Obviously, we’ve worked together for a long time, so there was all of these things going on, but I didn’t have a clear vision.”
They Filmed The Scenes Out Of Order
Steve Burton also revealed that he filmed the scenes for Kelly Monaco’s final General Hospital appearance out of order. He said, “I had to shoot that stuff with her first and then go backward. It was very sad because Kelly was obviously leaving, and then the emotion of the character passing and all these things, and I just thought everybody really did a wonderful job.”
Steve added, “It was really interesting to have gotten all that emotion out and then have to go back.”
When news broke Steve was just as shocked as everyone else that Kelly was being fired from the soap. She has teased there is more to the story and that she will give a statement in due time.
Other cast members of General Hospital have also spoken out about saying goodbye to Kelly. Overall, everyone loves her and believes better things are coming her way.
Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) said it was hard on viewers to watch but equally hard on all the characters playing the roles. She noted previously that being Kelly’s television mom was effortless and she was easy to love.
Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) also spoke saying what a remarkable woman Kelly Monaco is. He said she’s tough as nails and admirable. He also pointed out that his friendship with her will not end just because she’s no longer on the soap.
What do you think about Steve Burton sharing his thoughts on filming Sam McCall’s death? Did you get emotional watching it?
