‘GH’ Maurice Benard Hints At Shocking Sonny Romance

General Hospital fans love Maurice Benard as Sonny Corinthos. He is a legend on the show and many have vowed that without him, they will stop watching. His future seemed somewhat uncertain in recent weeks as he faced heart problems along with an assassin trying to take him out. Luckily, he survived and is back in Port Charles. In a recent interview, Benard spoke of retirement plans and also about a possible romance for Sonny on the show. His thoughts will most likely shock viewers.

Maurice Benard Talks Sonny Dying And New Friendship

Maurice Benard spoke out in a new interview about Sonny Corinthos’ future. The General Hospital icon had fans on the edge of their seats with the latest attempt to rid Port Charles of the mob boss. However, he survived. Now, he’s sharing his thoughts on that, plus he talked about a friendship on the show that could blossom into something more. He spoke with Woman’s World about it all.

As far as whether or not Sonny was going to survive his heart issues, Benard said he had friends coming up and asking him if he was leaving the show. He said he likes to compliment himself because he must have played the heart attack out well.

Fans can relax and know that Maurice appears to have no plans to retire anytime soon. In fact, it seems that perhaps Sonny is due for a new relationship. He’s always been popular with the ladies in Port Charles. One in particular seems very far-fetched, but hey, in the world of soap opera’s anything is possible.

Benard spoke of one particular actress whom he has really enjoyed working with recently. He is talking about Genie Francis, who plays Laura Collins on the show. For years, Maurice never had an opportunity to be on screen with Genie. Now, all these decades later, they are becoming friends on screen.

When speaking of Genie, he said, “I didn’t work with her before. It was basically, ‘Hi Laura… is Luke here?’ I don’t know why they kept us apart, but now, we’re doing a lot, and man, something happens when I’m in there with her. One time we did this scene on a couch, and I told her after we finished that there was a moment that I kind of wanted to make out—not in an unclassy way, but in a way where it felt like I needed so much comfort. I’m not saying they should put us together or anything, but I just respect Genie a hell of a lot, and in the scenes, there’s a lot of love. It’s just very sweet, man.”

Could A Shocking Romance Be In Store For Maurice Benard AKA Sonny Corinthos?

It seems these two General Hospital stars do have chemistry on set. So, could a romance happen between Sonny and Laura? Maurice Benard is not counting on it, but you never know. If it were to happen, he knows it would take some incredible writing to bring it to life.

Sonny has confided in her recently and the two seem to be getting more trusting with one another. In fact, she is continuing to support him as Mayor of Port Charles even though there are many targeting him and want him out.

Along with that, Sonny is contemplating leaving the mob life behind. Could this lead to something more between them?

It’s been a while since Sonny has had a huge romance on the show. Perhaps this shocking duo could come into existence down the road.

Of course, this is all speculation and there is most likely no chance writers will put these two together romantically, but boy, would that get Port Charles talking.
