GH actor John J. York shared an emotional update

General Hospital actor John J. York has played Mac Scorpio since 1991. He first shared his diagnosis on social media noting that he was explaining his brief hiatus from the beloved soap. When the doctors told him the news, they also told him he only had three to five years to live.

Now, he’s sharing a huge update with fans which was revealed on Good Morning America. He said, “I believe they found a match, a perfect match, which will make me cry. So, we’re going to start our testing and do all that kind of stuff coming up here in about a week, and then I believe the transplant will happen, fingers crossed, in November.”

Unfortunately, when John’s family tested to see if they were a match, they only matched six of the twelve markers needed. So, the search was considered and family members were put on standby.

He has had three bone marrow biopsies and several rounds of chemo over the past few months. When asked what he would say to the donor for saving his life, he said, “Thank you for saving my life. For letting me spend more time with my wife and my daughter and my son-in-law and my grandchildren and seeing this beautiful blue sky and all the beautiful trees around.”

Is he still working?

John J. York also revealed on GMA that he is feeling good and still going to work around his doctor’s appointments. In fact, the interview took place over a call from the set of General Hospital. However, after getting the transplant he will have to take three to four months off to remain in isolation so he won’t have any complications.

John is hopeful after getting the latest news. He wasn’t initially planning on going public with his health issues. However, he decided to in hopes of gaining awareness and encouraging others to donate to help save lives.
