‘General Hospital’ Shocker: Steve Burton Announces Departure From Soap

General Hospital fans love Steve Burton. He plays Jason Morgan on the daytime drama. Burton has been a big part of the storyline recently as he works to try to save Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). He was previously let go from the show after refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine that was mandated by ABC. However, he returned to his role as Jason in 2024. Now, Burton went to social media to announce his departure from the soap. What did he say?

General Hospital Reveals Steve Burton Is Leaving Show

General Hospital fans love Jason Morgan. He’s been a fan favorite for many years. He first began his career as Jason in 1991. Since then, he has been on and off the show through the years. Now, just when things are heating up, and he finally gotten some intimate alone time with Britt, he announced his departure from Port Charles.

Burton went to social media to share the news with fans. Thankfully, this is not truly the end of Jason Morgan. Steve said, “Hey everyone, I wanted to share that I’ll be taking a short break from General Hospital. I’m newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family. I’m grateful for all the support and will be back this summer. Much love.” Many thought the news was fake. However, General Hospital also shared it on their official Facebook page.

Right now, it’s not known what date his final episode will air. However, his last day on set was February 6.  The show is also taking a two-week break beginning next week.

Executive Producer Frank Valenti spoke with Soap Opera Digest and said, “We love Steve and I am glad the show worked it out so he can get some personal time with his family. We have some great Jason story leading up to spring and look forward to his return in the summer.”

This brings the next big question into play. What in the world is about to happen to Jason Morgan?

After going through his messy divorce, Steve Burton met and fell in love with chef and content creator Michelle Lundstrom. They got married on May 17, 2025. While Burton is looking forward to some downtime, fans will miss him terribly.
