General Hospital star Maurice Benard is an icon on the ABC soap. He plays Sonny Corinthos and has now for more than 30 years. What is Maurice Benard’s shocking net worth? According to Celebrity Net Worth, the General Hospital star is currently worth $2 million. Benard has had an exciting career. He began acting in 1987 when he got a part in All My Children. He was on the show until 1990.

In 1993 Maurice landed the role of Sonny Corinthos. He has been there ever since and fans can’t get enough of him. As the show enters its 60th year on the air, Benard has appeared in more than 1600 episodes.

In 2003 Maurice won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Sonny Corinthos.

Aside from working on soap operas, Benard has worked in several movies. Some of those films are Ruby, Mi Vida Loca,  To Face Her Past, Restraining Order, Crystal Clear, The Penny and The Ghost and the Whale.

He’s a huge advocate for mental health awareness

At the young age of 22, Benard was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He has since done tons of work outside of his acting career to advocate for mental health awareness.

He married his wife Paula Smith in 1990. The couple has four children together one of which is his adopted daughter.

He appeared on a talk show earlier this year and he opened up about his adopted daughter Heather Andresen. They adopted her in 2008 when she was 15 years old after losing her mother. She is Benard’s wife’s half-sister.

During his interview in April, he noted that he had not seen Heather since she joined the United States Air Force the previous October.

The show’s host said, “You’re not the only one that made a special trip today. She wanted to be here. Your daughter, Airman First Class Heather Andresen.”

After hugging Heather, Maurice said, “These surprises kill me,. I am so proud of her, and I can’t talk. So, uh, can I leave?”
