General Hospital villain Cameron Mathison, who plays Drew Cain on the soap, went to social media to share a health update with fans. It’s safe to say that in real life, Mathison is nothing like the despised congressman on GH. In fact, Cameron has endured many struggles over the past several years. One of these challenges has been going through cancer. Now, six years later, he’s sharing some information straight from the hospital. Is he okay?
General Hospital Cameron Mathison Updates Fans On Health
General Hospital star Cameron Mathison was diagnosed with a form of kidney cancer in 2019. He beat the disease but still must keep up with routine screenings to make sure the deadly disease has not returned. Mathison went to Instagram on Wednesday to share multiple photos straight from USC’s Keck Hospital in Los Angeles, California. The photos reveal him outside of and in the CT scan machine. He also shared photos standing in front of the X-ray machine.
Cameron captioned the post saying, “Six-year cancer checkup day. Blood work, CT scan, X-rays. Grateful to be here. I’ll keep you posted.”
Fans and colleagues went to the comment section to offer their well-wishes and cheer him on. He responded to many of them with red heart emojis. So far, Mathison has not shared results. Since overcoming cancer, Mathison has focused on living a healthier lifestyle and is the co-founder of Health 360. Fitness and eating healthy have become top priorities for Mathison.

What He Revealed About Cancer Diagnosis
When Cameron Mathison first got the cancer diagnosis in 2019. After an MRI to figure out what was causing gastrointestinal issues, doctors discovered the tumor. Looking back at his diagnosis and finding out, Cameron said, “In my heart, I’d known something was wrong, but actually hearing the diagnosis was bizarre. It felt like a dream that seemed so real, but one I wanted to wake up from.”
The 56-year-old father and Emmy-nominated actor shared that the doctor was able to remove the tumor along with 20 percent of his right kidney. He’s been cancer-free since then.

Along with battling cancer, Mathison also lost his home to the Los Angeles wildfires that occurred a few years ago. Through it all, he maintains his positive attitude, and while his character on the show is hated, Mathison has learned to embrace it all. It’s fun for him to portray the complete opposite of how he is in his everyday life.
Along with appearing in General Hospital, Mathison also steps in from time to time as a guest host on Good Morning America. He also continues to make Christmas movies.
