Amy Roloff apologizes to Jen Arnold after offensive comments were made

Little Couple star Jen Arnold shared with fans that Dwarfism Awareness Month was in October. When the month came to an end, she used the opportunity to share common misconceptions about dwarfism and words or phrases that are highly offensive.

After sharing this information with fans on Instagram, Jen shared a photo of herself on a plane just one day after her post regarding Dwarfism Awareness Month. The look on her face is priceless.

She captioned the post saying, “When you board the plane and the flight attendant says, “Have you ever been to Chittenango NY? They have an amazing celebration of The Wizard of Oz with a parade every year with all the munchkins. You’d love it.” Day 1 after #Dwarfism #Awareness Month 💚 #advocacy #DEIA #DEI #EDI”

Jen pointed out that the woman was lovely and she did not feel like she intended to be inconsiderate. She hopes just being there will help raise awareness about what is appropriate.

Amy Roloff went to the comment section to make an apology to Jen. Amy said, “Oh dear. Still amazes me what some adults do and say in this day. Sorry you had to deal with that in public.”

Jen thanked Amy for her kind words and noted it’s just a lesson that everyone still has work to do. She also wished Amy well.

Other fans chimed in and said they felt the woman most likely didn’t mean any harm. Others thought she should let corporate know that it was not an appropriate choice of words used by the flight attendant.

Things Jen pointed out about dwarfism

In her post regarding Dwarfism Awareness Month, Jen Arnold shared a lot of valuable pieces of information. One of the most offensive terms is “midget” according to Jen.

She also shared that most people with dwarfism have some sort of medical complication. She pointed out that some can be more severe than others.

Jen also noted that if a person is a normal size, they do not refer to it as that. Instead, they say the person is average.

She also said, “Dwarfism can be caused by one of more than 200 different types of dwarfism with an estimated 30,000 people in the U.S. and 651,700 in the world.”

There are many acceptable terms to refer to someone who has dwarfism. They are “Little People, LP, Person of short stature or Person with a form of dwarfism” Jen even noted that most are comfortable with being called a dwarf.
